About Long-Term Care

Long-term care (LTC) is the type of care you need when you are not able to perform activities such as dressing, bathing, toileting, or eating, due to an accident, illness, advancing age, or if you have a severe cognitive impairment.

 

LTC benefits help pay for professional in-home care, care at an assisted living facility or nursing home, professional services and family support.

 

District Coverage: The District provides core LTC coverage for all eligible employees. Your core LTC coverage includes LTC facility monthly benefits as well as Professional Home Care. You will receive up to $2,000/month for 2 years with a lifetime maximum of $48,000.

 

Buy Up and Family Coverage Options: You can purchase an additional layer LTC for yourself, including coverage for a longer duration, larger monthly amounts and inflation protection, You can also purchase coverage for your spouse, children, parents, spouse’s parents, brothers, and sisters at the District’s rates. WA Cares Fund: Effective July 1, 2023, Washington will tax your wages $0.58 per $100 to fund the state long-term care program, the WA Cares Fund. The Fund will provide long-term care benefits of up to $100 per day, up to a lifetime maximum benefit of $36,500 to eligible workers while living in Washington state. If you have an exemption from the WA Cares Fund, please provide a copy of your exemption approval letter to the District’s Benefits Department.
